I never was a hippy. I am a child of my generation. We grew up in post Hippy days, the 1970s, watching television as much as possible (without cable), saturday morning cartoons, the six million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman; as the 80's approached, we are the convenience store generation. The atari generation. We were the first young people to play video games standing up at the pizza parlor for a quarter and saw the dawn of cable television. Some of us (myself included) poked around on a commodor vic 20 (20 K memory) like this: 
It was entirely DOS
we plugged the computer into the television and 
saved our work on casset tapes



Anyone who had a real computer before the mid 80s was likely a "nerd" and presumably had some money to blow.
